Secretary's Minutes - June 3, 2007
Champlain Valley Quilter's Guild

The meeting was opened by Pam Farnsworth, President after a delightful potluck organized by Ruth Whitaker. A motion was made by Sarah Page, seconded by Rita Bortz to approve the Secretary's minutes as printed. Approved. A motion was made by Sarah Page and Carol Albertson to approve the Budget for next year as printed in the newsletter. Approved.

Teela Dufresne then presented the slate of officers for next year. Approved by Guild

Laura Clements, Volunteer Coordinator for Quilt Show. There are still many opportunities to volunteer. There is also a need for people to sell Raffle Quilt Tickets at different places over the summer and at the Fair. See either Laura, Leafy Pante or Phyllis Billings to volunteer for these activities.

Wendy Thompson said there is a donation box in the lobby to help the quilter in need of supplies, fabric etc. Perhaps some Teacup Auction items would be appropriate. Janet Brunet, programs, stated that there is a discount available for parking/groups who carpool to the Lowell Quilt Show. Ruth Whitaker still has 4 sets left on the bus going to this show. $40 covers the bus cost only.

Karen Abrahomovich reported on the successful UFO challenge and presented awards to those picked from participants. 16 people participated. 111 projects were completed and 8 completed all of their projects. Winners were Phyllis Fletcher, Jane Banks and Tammy Schmidt.

Sarah Page reported on the next Abnaki Block Swap. There is still room to signup for the Warm/Cool ½ square triangle swap. One done in each color combination for each participant. See her for more information.

Claire Graham Smith reported that Strawberry Rhubarb Bernina Shop is having Kaye England on June 20. They will be meeting at the Theatre. Anne Warwick reported on the Quilt Show. July 9th is the next show committee meeting at 6:00 at Pizzagalli's at 55 Joy Drive, South Burlington. She is working on a discount arrangement with the Rug Hookers who are having their show at Shelburne the same weekend as ours.

Alexandra Nickerson reported on Vermont Quilt Festival. Help is still needed particularly for the 11-12 Quilt monitoring slot. Becky Wetzel reminded all that as of September the newsletter will only be on the website. Snail mail deliveries will still be done. A suggestion was made to list dates/programs for the year on Septembers newsletter and perhaps send a reminder to all e-mail participants of this change in August.

Following the business meeting Sarah Page was auctioneer for a successful Tea Cup Auction.

Secretary's Minutes - May 6, 2007
Champlain Valley Quilter's Guild

The meeting was opened by Pam Farnsworth, President. We had 4 vendors present at the meeting. The program was opened with a lecture and slide show by Mary K. Ryan on "What a Judge Looks For". Alexandra Nickerson then discussed the Vermont Quilt Festival. There is still a need for volunteers in many places from the new Information Desk , helping with hanging of quilts and take down as well as being a scribe for a Judge. She also needs someone to help secure door prizes. See her at the break.

Sarah Page has a sign up sheet and information on the next Abnaki Block Swap. In the Fall it will be half square triangles - 2 in cool colors and 2 in warm colors. Laura Clements will be signing up volunteers for our Quilt Show in November. The raffle quilt will be going to Green Mountain Quilt Guild this month and also the Lilac Festival at Shelburne Museum on 5/18. See Leafy to volunteer for this.

A motion was made by Sarah Page and seconded by Nicole Laurencelle to approve the April meeting minutes as printed. The Stocking raffle this month is a Fat ¼ basket prepared by Barb Carter. This will be the last one till next Fall. Winner is Sandy Jervais.

Mitzi Oakes reported on the Quilt Challenge for our November show. A Kaleidoscope theme no larger than 150". This is due at the October meeting where they will be judged by the membership for the most popular and awards given. To be entered in the Quilt Show you must fill out a registration form. She also reported for Shirley Banks on some VQF needs. They are looking for drivers to help transport teachers. They are also looking for someone to make a raffle quilt for 2010. They would like it appliquéd and hand quilted. (She has an Amish contact for the hand quilting if necessary).Green Mountain quilt guild is May 17th. Sue Reich will be the speaker and there will be a Chinese Auction.

Teela Dufresne reported on Camp Abnaki. She has a blue and white striped towel that was left there. 54 people attended and enjoyed the extra day. The fall Camp will be held September 25-28 - again covering the Thurs-Sunday period. Signups and payment will be at the June meeting. The cost will remain the same as the last one.

Nominating Committee - Claire Graham Smith has agreed to be Program Co-chair with Janet Brunet for next year. They are still seeking a Vice President. Ruth Whitaker reported on the bus trip to Images. August 9th - 7 am - 7 pm. $40 due at sign up. Seats are still available and are open to all. She is currently accepting silent auction items. Karen Abrahamovich will be awarding UFO prizes at the June meeting. Janet Brunet would like the rest of the surveys at the June meeting. Nicole Laurencelle reported on the Quilt Show. Planning is on track with the next meeting to be May 28th at 6:00 pm at Yankee Pride.

Marya Lowe did the last Block of the Month drawing for this year. 34 wonderful log cabin blocks were won by Jane Banks. Shirley Fuller reported on Community Quilts. This is the last month for kits till the fall but she will accept finished items at the June meeting.

Leafy Pante displayed the finished raffle quilt. The excellent quilting was done by Wilma Gatti on this Kaleidoscope Quilt. Wendy Thompson mentioned a collection of quilt items and fabric being done at the June meeting for a fellow quilter in Randolph who has lost everything in a fire. There will be a box displayed for donations. In June will be our Silent Auction and Covered Dish supper. Ruth Whitaker is in charge of the food and Jane Banks will handle the Tea Cup Auction - bring address labels. If you have silent auction donations see Wendy.

Secretary's Minutes - April 1, 2007
Champlain Valley Quilter's Guild

The meeting was opened by Pam Farnsworth, President. The March meeting was cancelled due to the weather, she reminded us when there is a question of whether the meeting is on due to weather to check the website or call one of the officers. Vendors for tonights meeting are Quilters Garden and Snowflake Quilts. Janet Brunet introduced the speaker for tonight - Carol Anne Grotrian, "Shibori and Me".

Following a short break the business portion of the meeting continued. Programs handed out a members survey to all present. You may turn them in either tonight or at the next meeting (there will be a red basket in the lobby for them). You may also mail them to Janet Brunet.

Anne Warwick and Nicole Laurencelle reported on the progress of the Quilt Show. There are two positions open that need to be filled. Volunteer Coordinator and Reception Coordinator. Please contact them if you can volunteer. Phyllis Billings reported on Raffle Quilt time at the Fair - signups are in process for this.

Ruth Whitaker reported on the Silent Auction. She has requested for people who have not participated in this before to join in. Wallhangings should try to appeal to a general audience. She will accept donations at any time. She also reported on the Bus Trip to the Lowell Quilt Festival in August. The cost is $40 and we must fill a 36 passenger bus. This is on a first come first serve basis, you must pay when you sign up. She is opening this to other guilds as well.

Joanne Latrell thanked those who returned Library books. She hopes to have them all back by May. The new method of volunteers taking 1 bucket home with them is working well. If you wish to donate books please contact her directly, so we do not get too many of one book, etc.

Vermont Quilt Festival signups have begun. See Alexandra Nickerson in the lobby to volunteer. The VQF website has a list of needs and job descriptions if you would like to volunteer.

Karen Abrahamovich reported on the ongoing UFO project. There are 16 participants and so far have completed 70 projects. May will be the last chance to report in so get those projects done. June she will award prizes.

Marya Lowe announced that Lynn Berger and Ann Standish will be taking over this project for next year. Mays block will be the funky log cabins. Sue Rivers won the drawing for April.

Ruth Whitaker did the drawing for the Stocking Raffle with a handmade bag. The winner was Joyce Dawson. It was also announced that Florence Shattuck is with us tonight. She made the guild wallhanging that is used each month.

Shirley Fuller reported that Community Quilts will be bringing a full selection of kits next month to prepare us for summer stitching. The kits will not be coming at the June meeting but she will accept completed quilts at any time. The drawing for tonight was awarded to Lynn Merchant.

Wendy Thompson, Vice President reported that the Nominating committee is still in need of volunteers for Program co-chair and Vice President for next year. The Tea Cup auction is also in need of volunteers to help set up. Jane Banks is organizing the raffle and Ruth Whitaker is handling food. Please make sure you bring your address labels or a Sharpie to put your name on tickets. If the auctioneer cannot read your name it will be put back in the bucket so write clearly.

The Executive Board meeting will be April 8th, 6 pm at Yankee Pride.

Secretary's Minutes - February 5, 2007
Champlain Valley Quilter's Guild

The February meeting was opened by Pam Farnsworth, President. Announcements were begun with the Quilt Show 2008 volunteers. Co-Chairs Nicole Laurencelle and Anne Warwick. Raffle Quilt Coordinator - Leafe Pante. Registrar - June Sweeney. Beth DeBernardi will be handling publicity. Thank you all - we will have a great show this year! First meeting of the new Quilt Show 2008 committee will be held February 21 at 6 pm at Yankee Pride.

Beth Jennings has the new membership list. See her to pick up your copy. Alexandra Nickerson is volunteer coordinator for VQF. She announced that the brochures are out. She is not ready quite yet to accept volunteer signups - check back next month.

The minutes of the January guild meeting were approved as printed with a motion made by Linda Lees , seconded by Caroline Edmunds. Marya Lowe did the drawing for the raffle blocks - winner Eileen Saxon. Next months block will be in indigo and white, check the newsletter or website for more information and the pattern. Karen Abrahomovich announced that the UFO project is coming along well with members finishing projects every month.

Next months program will be Richard Cleveland with a collection of Antique Quilts.

Nicole Laurencelle introduced the mini workshops and where they were located.

Ruth Whitaker reported on an excellent bus trip to New Hampshire with 42 attending in spite of the weather. Her next planned trip will be to Images in mid August. More information to come.

Mitzi Oakes encouraged guild members to enter quilts in the Vermont Quilt Festival. The registrations must be in the beginning of March. This is a special Vermont Show and should have a good showing of Vermont Quilts. Shirley Fuller announced the Community Quilt workshop is Saturday, March 8th from 10-5 at the EAC Teen Center. This is open to all in the guild and a great way to meet people. Winner of this months drawing is Rita Bortz.

Following a great Show n Tell, the meeting adjourned to take advantage of the 11 mini workshops planned by Nicole Laurencelle and the program committee. Great job!
