September 4 - Workshop:
Wednesday, September 4
Allison Wilbur’s full day workshop, “Sashiko by Hand and Machine”
Learn about the traditional Japanese art of sashiko
– white stitching on indigo fabric. Allison starts off
with the history of sashiko in Japan and a sampling of traditional patterns. She then teaches you how to transfer patterns, how to start and end stitching when stitching by hand, and more complex forms of sashiko. In the afternoon you learn to make the stitches using your domestic sewing machine. Allison brings a variety of samples that show
how you can use sashiko stitching to embellish your quilts and to make a number of beautiful handmade gifts. Students complete a pillow sized piece in the three hour workshop. A perfect workshop
for all levels.
Cost for members: $50 (nonmembers $60)
There will be an optional kit available for $15.
