2024 Challenge Quilt
Use Your Initials!
The Rules:
1. Fabrics and techniques are your choice.
2. How to use your initials. One initial for the first letter of quilt block or pattern name, one for first letter of the MAIN color (other colors are allowed and they don't all need to start with the same letter, though they certainly can) and the final initial is for the embellishments or quilting motif/design. The initials can be used in any order. If your name has more than 3 initials , please just choose three of them. If your name has less than 3 initials you can use a nickname or duplicate one of the other initials.
3. Perimeters should be between 48 and 144 inches. It is OK to go a little bigger or smaller, if you have the perfect entry but it is outside of the parameters. I won't measure the entries, FYI. Keep in mind that I do know the difference between a bed quilt, a mug rug and a wall hanging without measuring though, so please try not to push the boundaries too much.
4.A 3" x 5" index card attached to the BACK OF THE QUILT with your NAME and a brief description of your quilt on one side and telephone and/or email address on the other side of the card.
5. Hanging sleeve on the back - a split sleeve is preferable. This allows access to the hanging rod for extra support for larger quilts as well as allows us to hang from the center on smaller quilts. You could also do several tabs across the back (they can either be hidden or visible) or even use corner pockets. See examples below and you can Google "how to hang your quilt with a" ... split sleeve, corner pockets or hanging tabs. Photos below.
6. Please supply a dowel for your quilt WITH YOUR NAME WRITTEN ON THE DOWEL. Please make sure that the dowel is long enough to span the width of your quilt, but is no more than 2 inches longer than your quilt. A dowel that is too long creates problems when hanging in a group and doesn't look very nice. Photos below.
7. Quilts to be presented and displayed at our June 2024 guild meeting when our members will vote for their favorite.
6. Quilts to be displayed at various locations over the next year, including Charlotte Senior Center, and various local Libraries: Charlotte , Shelburne, South Burlington, Hinesburg, and Williston.
If you have a suggestion of other places to display our quilts, let me know and I will look into them.
Get creative. Crowd source, check your library of books for fun ideas, use Google to help you find unique colors names
