Tutorials

If you're like me, you run across videos, articles, etc., that put a new twist on things to make it easier to make a beautiful quilt.  Let's share these hints and tips with others so that we can all enjoy learning something new.

If you have something you'd like to add, just send it to the Webmaster by using the 'Contact the Webmaster' link at the bottom of every page

Age Well Food Delivery Bag

Cut 18” x 40” (Wof), from that cut 2- 3” x 18” strips for handles.
Sew or serge the 2 long sides of the 18”x 34” fabric, make a 2” gusset in the bottom corners, double fold along the top, iron.

To Make the handles, fold in half, along the  length, iron, then fold the sides to the middle then fold together and iron , top Stitch both sides.
Sew the handles 2” from each side of center, front & back and sew onto the top with 2 rows of stitching. Done, easy to make 2 or more at a time!
Sew right sides together, double fold top edge about an inch, sew handles to the top edge, back stitching the handles securely to the sack.
Size width can be between 15” and 18” and about 12” to 14” high.

Children's Masks:
Here are patterns for kids' masks if people are needing one....

Below are 2 patterns; one using elastic which is getting difficult to find and would break down if sterilized in an autoclave.  The other is made with ties.  Either kind can be washed using hot water which is what many facilities will be doing.

Regardless of which pattern you are using, a nurse friend has told me that every mask needs a non-woven layer included so non-woven interfacing should be included between the layers of fabric.

Here's a link to the masks that Dartmouth-Hitchcock is requesting and drop off/mailing locations.  These use elastic to hold them on.

Here's a mask that has strings to tie. Dartmouth-Hitchcock would take these as well.

And, lastly, a YouTube video if you need a visual.  She goes on a bit at the beginning so you may be able to skip through to where she starts the tutorial.
